England calls for a national holiday if women’s World Cup wins. British government: no need

However, the government almost ruled out this idea, but insisted that they would find the right way to celebrate. A government spokesman said: “We congratulate the England women’s football team on its outstanding performance in the Women’s World Cup final. The current public holiday model has been established and there is no plan to change this.”

Later added in the second statement: “Winning the World Cup will be an important moment for this country. There is no doubt that we will find the right way to celebrate. As Weigman himself said, the first thing we need to do is to focus on the finals this weekend and the whole country will cheer for them.”

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak expressed congratulations to the team after the team defeated Australia and wrote on social media: “Their performance is so good, there is only one match left… just on Sunday.”
